Example: Transfer Hydrogenation using a Monolithic Nanoparticular Pd[0] PACT Reactor Cartridge
This Application Note illustrates how the R-2 pump/injector and R-4 flow reactor modules can be used in combination with a reactor column to perform Polymer Assisted Continuous flow-Through (PACT) chemistry.
In this example, transfer hydrogenation reactions are performed using a monolithic polystyrene reactor column derivatised with nanoparticular Pd(0). Transfer hydrogenation is a synthetically useful technique that enables hydrogenation to be effected without the need for hydrogen gas. In this example the reduction of an aromatic nitro compound 1 is examined and 1,4-cyclohexadiene and lithium formate are contrasted as sources of hydrogen.
