Bromination of Alkenes with NBS under continuous flow
This application note illustrates ease of scale-up and ease of control of a reaction that in batch would require careful incremental addition of reagents.
Background
A practical and scaleable route was required to enable multigram synthesis of A on demand, for use as a building block in a lead optimization project. Additionally, development of a generic method for halogenation of unsaturated C-C bonds (a common reaction) would lend itself well to other projects.
Bromination of unsaturated C-C bonds with NBS is a well known and widely used procedure, although when carried out in batch, slow and careful addition of the NBS is often required in order to prevent over-bromination and avoid thermal runaway
